![]() It also seemed fitting to use this as the main theme for the album artwork due to how well it ties together all of the concepts mentioned. ![]() I chose to illustrate these concepts using the visual imagery of a ripple effect in water because of the way water is such a reflective substance and also because of how central it is to baptism. Whilst memories of events reverberate over time, there is a type of constant reflection that accompanies this, reflection on the events but reflection on ourselves and how the events are shaping us.Īdditionally, as my producer pointed out, there was the all-resounding voice of God that framed the universe in the beginning, something I hadn‘t even thought of when deciding on the name for the album! In my opinion, the idea of self-reflection is also inextricably linked with this. On a slightly deeper level though, there’s also the way in which a personal life event or occurrence can be so meaningful that the memory of it keeps resonating indefinitely over the course of a lifetime. As a songwriter and musician, these are undoubtedly some of my main aims. Similar to this is the definition: ‘to relate harmoniously: strike a chord ’. The most obvious level of relevance is the word’s definition regarding the science of sound reverberation − the prolongation of sound by reflection.Īnother definition of resonance relating to an affect had on an audience or recipient of a message is described in the Merriam-Webster dictionary as: ‘to have particular meaning or importance for someone: to affect or appeal to someone in a personal or emotional way’. The title ‘Resonance’ touches on a number of different concepts that specifically relate to the songs on the album. This experience really did mark the point in time where everything changed for me as a person and so the song explores the idea of how so much can happen in such a small period of time, one single moment. The lyrics describe the experience of receiving God’s Holy Spirit, a gift promised to mankind in the New Testament. Although some aspects of the song have changed a lot since it was first written, the song’s message definitely hasn’t changed. I thoroughly enjoyed building the song textually with vocal harmonies and creating a musical representation of ‘wind into empty room’ towards the end of the song. It’s also the song that had the most technically challenging piano and vocal arrangements so I’m really pleased with how it all came together. The song Moment of Truth, also featured on the EP ‘Not Finished Yet’, is particularly significant to me because it is the song that has taken the longest amount of time to finish − about 13 years. ![]() Knowing that they have now been fully realised through the process of recording is particularly fulfilling. The fact that they have been written over the space of about 13 years has meant that some of them have changed and developed quite a lot with time. It provides listeners with a series of reflections of my ongoing relationship with the living God, creator and author of the universe.Įach song carries a unique underlying message or theme and has its own musical vibe. The three songs included are: Not Finished Yet, Deeper Than the Sea and Moment of Truth.įor me personally, ‘Resonance’ serves as a collection of snapshots taken of different periods from my life.
